Tips for Writing Quickly | #FantasyWritersUnite

Fantasy Writers Unite is back! Today I hosted the video on my own channel, and to tie into the theme of NaNoWriMo, we talked all about our tips for writing quickly. If you are not able to watch a video at your current moment, here are some of the tips we mentioned:

  • Writing the first draft is actually the easy and fast part, it is the editing and such after that takes the most time.
  • We both work with brief outlines. Neither of us write with strict outlines, but we do both have basic outlines for when we write. Having them helps us write faster, but making them basic keeps room to keep it exciting.
  • NEVER go back and edit or re-write. We both agree that going back to fix anything is the worst thing you can do. Instead, write a note for yourself and get it on the second draft.
  • We both keep writing notes on hand. Notes are important for names, birthdays, character descriptions, and more. I personally have a huge binder, while Ella has a small booklet. Either way, we keep the same information on hand. I personally use my binder more on the second draft, but I like to have it for the first one as well.
  • Schedules are very important. If you want to write for a living, treat it like a job. The schedule should not end when NaNoWriMo does; you have to make it a priority. Ella has set a schedule with her family where she writes after work every day, and that is extremely important to do. Treat your writing like a priority or no one around you will.

To those who do not know, is a group of, you guessed it, fantasy writers. In these videos, we come together and talk all about the ins and outs of writing fantasy. If you would like to join our videos, please do not be afraid to let me know in the comments section below, or on our Facebook group page.
